Has anyone ever started an “Odd Parent Support Group”–like a club for parents who feel like outliers? I recently realized that my approach to parenting, my hobbies, and even my sense of humor are pretty different from the other parents at school functions and playdates. Sometimes I even feel left out because I’m that parent with rainbow hair or the only one who brings homemade sushi for lunch.
I’m starting to think we need a space for parents who don’t quite fit the “mainstream parent mold”-maybe for those who are STEM nerds, goths, artists, gamers, punks, philosophers, eco-warriors, cosplayers, or just generally see the world in a quirky way.
Would anyone else be interested in talking about the unique joys and challenges of parenting when you’re the “odd” one? How do you find your people, or help your kids navigate social stuff when you and your family aren’t “typical”? Anyone have stories or tips to share, or want to brainstorm ways to make an odd-parent support group happen?
