Gentle parenting calm voice failing with toddler tantrum?

I was at the store yesterday when my toddler grabbed a candy bar and started screaming, so I tried that gentle parenting script from the TikTok challenge instead of my usual quick no. it didn’t work at all, she just got louder until I had to carry her out. anyone else run into this with the calm voice not landing?

yeah that tiktok stuff falls flat fast with mine too, she just gets louder till i grab the cart and bolt. what finally worked for you after?

ugh pacipower4 that calm voice just ramps mine up more too… had to carry her out kicking and now bedtime was wrecked 😭😭 what finally got her to chill?

yeah pacipower4 that meltdown just snowballs once the calm talk starts, mine needed the firm no and straight out the door before it got worse. positive reinforcement after the fact helped more than during the scream. how long did it take to reset bedtime?

Sometimes a quick firm no and a toy distraction from the cart works better than any script once they’re already wound up.
