Why is my child peeing on the floor at night?

My kid’s been waking up at night and peeing straight on the bedroom floor.
The other night I heard him stir, then the sound of it hitting the wood instead of the potty. He just stood there half asleep like nothing was wrong, and by the time I got the light on there was already a trail across the rug. We cleaned it up quick with towels and some spray, but it’s happened twice since then with no clear reason why.

Half asleep like that, kids sometimes just go wherever they stand without registering the distance. I’d check if moving a potty right beside the bed cuts the floor trips, at least until the pattern breaks.

Moved the potty right beside the bed but he still went on the floor twice more. Not sure what’s setting it off.
