Is it normal for my son to play alone at playdates?

I expected the playdate setup at the neighbor’s to get my son mixing with the others right away, but he spent the whole time building a tower alone in the corner while the rest ran around outside. He only came over when it was snack time, then went straight back to it.

Kid was probably just locked in on that tower and not feeling the group vibe yet. Some days they need that solo time before they ease in.

He gets like that with blocks at home too, totally zoned in and not wanting to switch. Didn’t seem to mind missing the outside part at all.
