I recently came across an interesting concept in a parenting book that distinguishes between two types of parenting styles: the "carpenter" and the "gardener." The carpenter appraoch is very goal-oriented, where parents mold their children according to specific blueprints, much like a carpenter shapes wood. In contrast, the gardener approach is more about providing a nurturing environment for children to develop in their own unique ways, similar to how a gardener tends plants.
This got me thinking about how these styles might impact child development long-term. Do any of you follow a particular style consciously? Have you noticed differences in your children's growth and development based on your approach? What are some of the challenges or benefits you've experienced with either style? I’m eager to hear other parents' perspectives and experiences regarding this analogy!
